Zanele Muholi has been photographing a visual history of the black LGBTI community in South Africa for more than a decade. She captures “inhumanity” in her photojournalism of violence against LGBTI people, and “humanity” in her portraits of more than 500 LGBTI South Africans. In this short film, Muholi explains her passion for her work and why she considers herself a “visual exhibitist” more than an artist.
